How to make a new account on Backpack Wallet
This process applies to both mobile and browser extension.
- Download the Backpack app or extension
- Open the application or extension
- Select 'Create a new wallet'
- Choose the appropriate blockchain network
- Note: you can add additional networks to the same account after creating the account
- Review the Secret Recovery Phrase Warning and confirm
- Record the Secret Recovery Phrase in a secure location
- Note: This is the only way to recover your account
How to import an existing wallet to Backpack Wallet
- Open the Backpack Wallet main menu and select '+ Add Account'
- Select 'Import Wallet'
- Choose the appropriate blockchain network
- Pick the appropriate import route
- Import secret recovery phrase
- Use a hardware wallet
- Import private key
- Add view-only public key
- Follow the specific instructions for each import route

Important steps before importing a hardware wallet to Backpack
- Complete hardware device setup
- Update hardware device firmware
- Download the apps needed to support your crypto assets
Note: The import process is different for each hardware device, follow the device directions once you get to that point.
- Open the Backpack Wallet main menu and select '+ Add Account'
- Select 'Import Wallet'
- Select 'Import Wallet' again and choose the appropriate network
- Choose 'Use a hardware wallet'
- Select the appropriate hardware wallet and approve connection requests
- After completing specific device instructions, choose the appropriate Funded Addresses and select 'Import Wallet'
How to setup multisig wallet protection
- (Optional) Import your cold storage hardware wallet(s)
- Visit a reputable multisig wallet platform that has integrated Backpack Wallet and initiate the setup process.
- Utilize Backpack Wallet as the interface to manage signatures and transactions.some text

Backpack has a long history of supporting developing blockchain networks before they go live on mainnet.
- Enable Developer Mode in the Settings menu (located in Preferences submenu)
- Open the Wallet menu at top of app
- Select the drop down menu network selector
- Choose 'Add Network' and pick the appropriate network
How to swap tokens in Backpack Wallet
- Open the Swap menu
- Choose the token that will be swapped and what token will be received
- Select the Review button and approve the transaction
Note: If the tokens do not immediately appear in your Wallet menu, open and close the app.
How to swap tokens crosschain using Wormhole bridge in Backpack Wallet
Note: In this example, start in a Solana wallet.
- Create both Solana and Ethereum wallets in the same Account
- For an existing Account, choose 'Add Network' in the main menu to add the appropriate network
- Open the Swap menu
- Select the Receiving menu
- Select the Ethereum tab and choose the token you want to receive
- Choose the token you want to Swap and enter the amount
- Review and approve the transaction
How to stake SOL in Backpack Wallet
Staking SOL in Backpack Wallet is convenient and secure, staked tokens support the Mad Validator.

Note: Deposit SOL to your wallet before beginning the process
- Select Solana (SOL) from the token list
- Open the Staking menu
- Select 'Add Stake'
- Enter the SOL amount and select 'Stake'
- Approve the transaction
If you unstake your SOL, the tokens will be released to your Wallet at the end of the current Solana Epoch. See more information about Solana Epochs here.
How to secure NFTs in with Collection Locking in Backpack Wallet
Collection Locking is a simple function that automatically rejects transaction requests when an NFT is Locked in the Backpack Wallet.
Anytime an application tries to modify your NFT, Backpack will immediately reject the signature request.
It only works when you use Backpack Wallet exclusively.
If you import a Backpack Wallet into another service provider, NFTs will not be locked in that wallet.
- Navigate to the Collectibles menu
- Open the NFT collection you wish to secure
- Toggle on the the lock at top of screen
Note: It's important to remember that this only locks the NFTs on that specific Wallet deployment.
How to use custom RPCs with Backpack Wallet
- Open the Backpack Wallet main menu and select '+ Add Account'
- Select the appropriate blockchain
- Choose 'RPC Connection'
- Open the Custom menu
- Enter the custom RPC URL and select Update

- Scroll to the bottom of the Tokens page
- Select 'Manage token display'
- Use the toggles to hide the spam tokens
- Exit the menu to update the Wallet display
How to hide spam NFTs in Backpack Wallet
- Navigate to the Collectible menu
- Scroll to the bottom and select 'Hide Some'
Note: Backpack Wallet has a 'whitelist' of known, legitimate NFT collections. These collections will continue to be displayed.
