# Your Holdings, Dividends & Corporate Actions

When a stock or ETF trade fills, the shares are held for you as real **security entitlements** — the same private property rights you'd have holding shares at firms like Schwab, Fidelity, Vanguard, and Robinhood. On Backpack, those holdings simply appear as balances in your portfolio, right next to your crypto. This page explains how that looks day to day, how you exit a position, and which shareholder features are live now versus still being worked on.

For the legal detail behind ownership and custody, see [Real Ownership & Legal Framework.](/exchange/backpack-securities/real-ownership-and-legal-framework.md)

#### How your holdings appear

There's no separate stocks account, balance, or login. Your USD, BTC, SOL, and any stocks you hold all live together in one Backpack portfolio.

Once a buy fills, your shares show up as a balance — for example, **0.5 AAPL** — alongside your other assets. Fractional positions are supported, so you might hold a partial share. There's nothing extra to set up or manage.

On a stock's detail page, a **Your Position** card appears in the right sidebar whenever you hold that stock. It shows:

* **Market Value** — the current value of your position in USD
* **Shares** — how many shares you hold (for example, `0.5 AAPL`)

#### How you exit a position

Today, the way to exit a stock position is to **sell it back to USD inside Backpack**. When a sell fills, the proceeds return to your available USD balance, ready to redeploy into another stock, into crypto, or to withdraw.

To sell, open the stock, switch the order form to the **Sell** tab, enter the quantity, and confirm the quote. The step-by-step flow is in How to Buy & Sell Stocks on Web.

{% hint style="info" %}
**Stock can't yet be moved to an external wallet, broker, or other platform.** External transfers are still being worked on (see Transfers, out below).
{% endhint %}

Because stocks aren't traded on margin and can't be used as collateral, a stock position can't be force-liquidated and doesn't put your other balances or positions at risk. (If you choose to fund a purchase with borrowed USD, the usual borrowing rules apply to that loan — but the stock holding itself isn't margined.) More on funding is in Trading Hours & Fees.

#### Dividends

Dividend information is shown on stock detail pages for reference. **Cash dividend payouts into your balance are still being worked on** — they aren't enabled yet.

The brokerage structure behind Backpack Securities supports cash dividend distributions on eligible securities. Once payouts are enabled:

* Eligible holders may receive cash dividends, paid in USD.
* The exact amount can vary with issuer actions, applicable withholding taxes, and jurisdictional or operational requirements.
* Certain tax certifications may be required before you can receive payouts or qualify for any tax-treaty treatment.

Dividend tax treatment depends on your jurisdiction, the issuer's jurisdiction, and relevant tax rules. Backpack doesn't provide tax advice — please consult a qualified tax adviser about your individual situation.

#### Stock splits & corporate actions

Split and corporate-action information is shown for reference today. **Having corporate actions reflected in your Backpack balance is still being worked on.**

So if a stock you hold goes through, say, a 2-for-1 split, you may see the split noted on the stock's page before your balance updates to match. The underlying brokerage infrastructure supports mandatory corporate actions — including stock splits, reverse splits, mergers, and certain spinoffs — and balance adjustments are coming. Once enabled, exact treatment can vary with issuer actions, brokerage support, regulatory requirements, and operational considerations.

**Delistings.** If a company you hold is delisted or otherwise becomes unavailable to trade, you may only be able to close (sell) the position, and any action you need to take will be communicated to you. How some corporate actions are reflected in your balance is part of what's still being worked on.

***

#### Voting rights

Shareholder voting for certain securities is supported by the underlying brokerage infrastructure and is **still being worked on** — it isn't enabled yet. Once available, voting may apply to certain securities, subject to issuer arrangements, applicable regulations, and operational limitations.

***

#### Transfers, out

The underlying brokerage infrastructure supports traditional transfer systems, including **ACATS** and **DTCC**-related processes, used to move positions between brokers. **External stock transfers are still being worked on** — they aren't enabled yet.

For now, stock can't be moved to an external wallet, broker, or another platform. To take value off the platform, sell the position back to USD and withdraw the USD.

***

#### Taxes

You're responsible for any taxes that apply to your own trading activity, based on your jurisdiction. Backpack doesn't currently provide tax statements, cost-basis, or profit-and-loss reports for stocks, so we recommend keeping your own records.

For anything tax-related, consult a qualified tax adviser — nothing here is tax, legal, or investment advice.
