# Brokerage Transfers

Bring eligible whole shares you hold at another broker into your Backpack Securities account. Transfers from Backpack to another broker are not currently supported.

{% hint style="info" %}
Brokerage transfers move shares between traditional brokerage accounts, while the **Conversion Flow** converts securities between their traditional form on Backpack and their tokenized form on Solana. To convert stocks to or from Solana, see [Conversion Flow](/backpack-securities/tokenized-securities/conversion-flow.md).
{% endhint %}

### How brokerage transfers work

A stock transfer is **not** like sending a stablecoin or a wire. **Both sides have to act:**

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
You create a transfer request **on Backpack**. This gives you the receiving details and a unique reference code.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
You file a transfer-out request **at your other broker** using those details.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
You come back to Backpack, attach two documents, and confirm that you've filed.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

Backpack cannot initiate the transfer on your behalf or pull shares directly from your other brokerage account. Both sides of the process must be completed before your transfer can proceed.

Your `ST` reference code helps us match incoming shares to your transfer request. If your broker provides a reference or memo field, enter the code exactly as shown on Backpack.

For detailed instructions, see [Transfer Stocks Into Backpack](/backpack-securities/brokerage-transfers/transfer-stocks-into-backpack.md).

### Fees

Backpack currently doesn't charge a fee for incoming brokerage transfers. Your broker may charge its own transfer-out fee — check with them before you start.

***

### How long it takes

Transfers typically take **3–10 business days** after your broker sends the shares. Your broker's processing time before sending the shares may vary.

**Important:**

* **Complete all required steps:** Upload the required documents and confirm your submission on Backpack. Missing steps may delay crediting.
* **Track your transfer:** Check the status badge on Backpack for updates. Live tracking is unavailable while shares are in transit.
* **Check your email:** Our Customer Support or Settlement team may contact you to verify details, such as your name or account number.

***

### How to start

On Backpack web, open **Deposit → Brokerage** to create an incoming transfer request. For the full walkthrough, see [Transfer Stocks Into Backpack](/backpack-securities/brokerage-transfers/transfer-stocks-into-backpack.md).

### Transfer statuses

You can track every transfer by its status badge in the **Brokerage** tab.

**Incoming transfers (into Backpack):**

| Badge                        | What it means                                                                                                                                                                                |
| ---------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Action needed** (yellow) | Your request is created on Backpack. You still need to file the transfer at your broker, attach your two documents, tick the declaration, and press **I've submitted at my broker**. |
| **Awaiting shares** (yellow) | You've confirmed your submission. Backpack is waiting for the shares to arrive. Transfers typically take 3–10 business days after your broker sends the shares. |
| **Shares received** (yellow) | Your shares landed and were matched to your request. Our settlement team is checking your documents and crediting the shares. |
| **Completed** (green) | Shares are credited to your Backpack account. |
| **Rejected** (red) | Our settlement team couldn't complete the transfer (usually a name mismatch or a documents problem). Email <settlement@backpack.exchange> for the reason. The fix is normally a new request. |
| **Cancelled** (grey) | The request was closed. |

{% hint style="info" %}
While your request is in **Action needed**, select **Cancel this request** to cancel it on Backpack.&#x20;

After you've confirmed your submission, email <settlement@backpack.exchange> with your `ST` reference code to request cancellation.
{% endhint %}

### Troubleshooting & common questions

<details>

<summary><strong>My transfer is stuck on "Action needed" or "Awaiting shares."</strong></summary>

* **Action needed:** Your transfer request requires additional steps on Backpack. Go to **Deposit → Brokerage** and complete any outstanding steps, including uploading the required documents and confirming your submission.
* **Awaiting shares:** Backpack is waiting for the shares to arrive. Transfers typically take **3–10 business days** after your broker sends them.

If your transfer remains in **Awaiting shares** for more than **10 business days** after your broker sends the shares, contact <settlement@backpack.exchange> with your `ST` reference code.

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Which account number do I give my broker?</strong></summary>

* Use `TREKLABS30` as the **Broker Account Number** (receiving account number).
* Your **User Account Number** is your unique `ST` reference code. Enter it in the reference or memo field if your broker provides one.
* Some brokers, including Interactive Brokers, may not provide this field. If no such field is available, you can omit the code. Backpack will use the transfer request and supporting documents you submit to help match your shares.

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>I sent a different quantity (or a different stock) than I requested.</strong></summary>

* The stock and quantity received must match your transfer request for automatic processing. If they differ, your transfer may require manual review, which can take longer.
* Contact <settlement@backpack.exchange> with your `ST` reference code, the stock and quantity you requested, and what your broker actually sent.
* If you haven't submitted your transfer-out request yet, create a new request on Backpack with the correct details.

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>I forgot to include the reference code, or entered it wrong.</strong></summary>

If your `ST` reference code is missing or incorrect, your shares may require manual review before they can be credited.

Contact <settlement@backpack.exchange> with your transfer details and supporting documents so our settlement team can help locate your shares.

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>I uploaded the wrong document.</strong></summary>

Uploaded files can't be removed. Add the correct file alongside it and our settlement team will use the right one.

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Can I transfer fractional shares?</strong></summary>

No. Whole shares only.

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Which brokers are supported?</strong></summary>

Your source broker must be supported by Backpack and support DTC Free of Payment (FOP) transfers. Search the broker directory by name or DTC number. If you can't find your broker, email <support@backpack.exchange>.

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Can I transfer stocks out of Backpack to another broker?</strong></summary>

Not yet. Transfers out are still being worked on. To take value off the platform today, sell the position for USD and withdraw the USD, or, for eligible tokenized securities, withdraw to a Solana wallet (see [Tokenized Securities](/backpack-securities/tokenized-securities.md)).

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Who do I contact for help?</strong></summary>

For help with brokerage transfers, including delays or mismatched details, email [**settlement@backpack.exchange**](mailto:settlement@backpack.exchange) with your `ST` reference code.

**To cancel a transfer request:**

* **Action needed:** Select **Cancel this request** on Backpack to cancel it yourself.
* **After confirmation:** Email [**settlement@backpack.exchange**](mailto:settlement@backpack.exchange) with your `ST` reference code to request cancellation.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://support.backpack.exchange/backpack-securities/brokerage-transfers.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
